The Gruesome Cartoon Movie Ending That Stays With Fans

Out of all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve personally viewed, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the terror-laced conclusion of the viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a dark, bleak and often savage world that included several minor , desolate hints of optimism.

While Unicorn Wars appears as it came from an impulse to expand the medium even more, the filmmaker stated that it was rather an attempt to convey a global, multicultural theme concerning “the shared root of all wars.”

That message is expressed through a band of colorful pastel bears , clearly modeled after a famous line of cuddly figures.

Maturing in a society focused on militarism as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of these animals are fixated on killing the mythical beasts, due to a religious scripture which states the bears they were once kings of the woods, until the horned beings expelled them.

A few did not entirely accepted the indoctrination, , prefer to sample drugs or fornicate in the forest.

Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these bright beings have visible sexual organs and clear libidos.

For a particular particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the conflict against the unicorns turns into a route to control — and particularly to dominance over his more tender, kinder brother the bear Tubby.

This bear behaves aggressively , a seeming psychopath , and when horror overcomes his group and claims his fellow soldiers sequentially, he grabs more and more control on his own behalf, via progressively bloody, harmful methods.

Simultaneously, these mythical beings are suffering their own horror, as a growing, destructive monster in their forest.

“At the beginning, it seems like a humorous movie,” the director stated. “But then it becomes a more serious and sorrowful movie. And ultimately, it’s a horror film.”

The Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical movies from a legendary filmmaker, which find a wicked pleasure in allowing animated figures curse, fire weapons, or have intimate relations.

Then it becomes something more like a bleaker movie by that same director, including ever more graphic violence and a palpable relation to genuine horror of battle.

In the finale, it is an outright Grand Guignol massacre.

The fear that makes this a perfect Halloween movie starts well before than one might expect.

The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of graphic films who want to watch a movie they have not seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a narrative which delivers unflinching brutality.

See it in a dimly lit space free from interruptions, and the finale will crawl into your mind and take up residence there.
